How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually two 2 mg/0.5 mg tablets, which can be taken up to two times on the first day of treatment as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take your dose once a day by placing the tablets under your tongue. Hold them there until they are fully dissolved (usually 5-10 minutes). Do not chew, swallow, or eat/drink before they are fully dissolved.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 mg of buprenorphine.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to buprenorphine, naloxone, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing problems or serious liver issues.
  • Do not take if you are drunk or having alcohol withdrawal symptoms like shaking, sweating, anxiety, confusion, or hallucinations.
  • Do not take if you are using naltrexone or nalmefene for alcohol or opioid dependence treatment.
  • This medicine can be very harmful or fatal if taken by accident, especially by children, or by someone it wasn't prescribed for. Keep it in a secure place away from theft.

  • Using this medicine with alcohol or other calming medicines (like benzodiazepines) can cause severe, life-threatening breathing problems and coma.
  • This medicine can cause sleep-related breathing problems, like pauses in breathing during sleep (sleep apnea) or low oxygen levels in the blood. If you notice these symptoms, talk to your doctor.
  • This medicine can cause dependence. If you take it too soon after other opioids or stop it suddenly, you might experience withdrawal symptoms.
  • Liver damage has been reported with this medicine, especially with misuse. Your doctor will monitor your liver with regular blood tests. Tell your doctor about any liver problems before starting treatment.
  • This medicine can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, making you feel dizzy when you stand up quickly.
  • This medicine can hide pain that might be a sign of other medical conditions. Always tell your doctor if you are using this medicine.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you, as it can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and make it hard to think clearly.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 15 years old.
