How to Use

Dosage

Typically, 1 inhalation twice a day for asthma or COPD. Your doctor may adjust the dose.

Method

Shake the inhaler 3-5 times. Load a dose by pressing down until you hear a click. Breathe out, place the mouthpiece in your mouth, and inhale deeply. Remove from mouth and rinse your mouth with water.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Palpitations, tremor or shaking (usually mild and disappear with continued use).
  • Thrush (fungal infection in the mouth; less likely if you rinse your mouth with water after each dose).
  • Mild throat irritation, cough, hoarseness.
  • Headache.
RARE
  • Restlessness, nervousness, agitation.
  • Sleep disturbances.
  • Dizziness.
  • Nausea.
  • Fast heart rate.
  • Bruises on the skin.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Rash, itching.
  • Bronchospasm (tightening of airways, causing wheezing).
  • Low blood potassium.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Depression.
  • Behavior changes, especially in children.
  • Chest pain or tightness (angina pectoris).
  • Increased blood sugar levels.
  • Taste disturbances, unpleasant taste in mouth.
  • Blood pressure changes.
  • Bone thinning (changes in bone mineral density).
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye's lens).
  • Glaucoma (increased eye pressure).
  • Slowed growth in children and adolescents.
  • Effects on adrenal glands.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to budesonide, formoterol, or lactose (which contains small amounts of milk protein).
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, lung infection, high blood pressure, heart problems (including irregular heartbeat or fast pulse), thyroid or adrenal gland problems, low potassium levels, or severe liver disease.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Rinse your mouth with water after each dose to prevent a fungal infection in the mouth.
  • Stop using the medicine immediately and contact your doctor if you experience facial swelling, hives, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or sudden dizziness (could be an allergic reaction). This is rare.

  • Stop using the medicine immediately and use your rescue inhaler if you suddenly start wheezing or have difficulty breathing right after using the inhaler. Contact your doctor immediately as your treatment may need to be changed. This is very rare.
  • Tell your doctor if you have fever, chills, increased or colored mucus, cough, or difficulty breathing, as these can be signs of a lung infection (pneumonia), especially in COPD patients.
