How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will prescribe the correct dose for asthma or croup, usually 0.25–2 mg per day. The dose may vary depending on age and severity of the condition.

Method

This medicine is inhaled using a nebulizer with a mouthpiece or a face mask. Only use a jet-type nebulizer, not an ultrasonic nebulizer.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. For asthma, the usual maximum starting dose is 2 mg per day. For croup, the dose can be 2 mg and may be repeated as instructed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infection in the mouth and throat, which may cause difficulty swallowing
  • Pneumonia (lung infection) in patients with COPD (symptoms: fever, chills, increased mucus, changes in mucus color, increased cough, increased breathing difficulties)
  • Irritation in the mouth and throat (can be prevented by rinsing mouth with water after inhalation)
  • Cough
  • Hoarseness
RARE
  • Anxiety, depression
  • Tremor (shaking)
  • Cataracts (clouding of eye lens), blurred vision, glaucoma (increased eye pressure)
  • Osteoporosis (weakening of bones) with long-term use
  • Muscle spasms (cramps)
  • Skin reactions including rash, itching, and redness
  • Growth retardation in children and adolescents, adrenal insufficiency
  • Restlessness, nervousness, behavioral changes, hyperactivity, or irritability (mainly in children)
  • Chest tightness and breathing difficulties
  • Voice changes, bruising
  • Sleep disturbances

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to budesonide or any other ingredients.
  • This medicine is not for sudden breathing problems or acute asthma attacks.
  • Stop using the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience sudden worsening of wheezing after inhalation.
  • Talk to your doctor before use if you have tuberculosis, liver disease, or a respiratory infection.
  • Rinse your face with water after using the face mask to prevent skin irritation.
