How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose. Typically, infants and children (6 months to 11 years) take 0.25 to 1 mg twice daily. Adolescents and adults usually take 0.5 to 2 mg twice daily.

Method

This medicine is for inhalation using a nebulizer. You breathe it in through a mouthpiece or a face mask, and it goes directly into your lungs.

Important

The maximum daily dose for infants and children under 12 is 2 mg. For adolescents and adults, the maximum daily dose is 4 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fungal infection in the mouth (oral thrush), which can be prevented by rinsing your mouth with water after use.
  • Mild sore throat, cough, or hoarse voice.
  • Lung infection (pneumonia) in patients with COPD. Symptoms may include fever, chills, increased mucus production, changes in mucus color, increased cough, or increased breathing difficulties. Tell your doctor if you have these symptoms.
RARE
  • Blurred vision, cataracts (clouding of the eye lens), or glaucoma (increased eye pressure).
  • Anxiety, depression, tremor (shaking), muscle cramps, aggression, restlessness, nervousness, over-excitement, irritability (these are more common in children), or sleep problems.
  • Osteoporosis (weak bones, with long-term use), bruises, loss of voice, slowed growth in children and adolescents, effects on adrenal glands (small glands near kidneys), or rash on the face (especially after using a face mask; rinse face after use to prevent).
  • Allergic reactions like swelling of the face, especially around the mouth (lips, tongue, eyes, ears), itching, rash, hives, or wheezing (bronchospasm). If you get these, stop using and contact your doctor immediately.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to budesonide or any other ingredient.
  • Contact your doctor right away if your breathing gets worse, you often wake up at night with asthma, or feel chest tightness in the mornings that lasts longer than usual. These could mean your condition is not controlled.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience blurred vision or other eye problems.
  • Before starting, tell your doctor if you have a lung infection (like flu or bronchitis) or liver problems.
  • Long-term use in children may affect growth. Your doctor will monitor this.

  • Seek medical help immediately if you experience sudden wheezing or shortness of breath right after taking your dose. This is very rare but important.
