How to Use

Dosage

One Budenofalk 4 mg suppository once a day.

Method

This medicine is for rectal use only, inserted into the rectum through the anus. Do NOT take it by mouth. Insert the suppository before bedtime, preferably after a bowel movement. Wash your hands, carefully remove the suppository from its wrapper, warm it briefly in your hands, lie on your side, and gently insert the narrow end deeply into your rectum. Wash your hands again.

Important

A maximum of one Budenofalk 4 mg suppository per day. Do not take a double dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased levels of the hormone cortisol in the blood (a steroid hormone).
RARE
  • Adrenal gland insufficiency (producing fewer hormones).
  • Headache.
  • Redness or flushing in the face.
  • Abdominal pain, flatulence, severe stomach pain due to pancreatitis.
  • Skin rash.
  • Menstrual changes, e.g., irregular periods.
  • Increased risk of infections.
  • Cushing's syndrome (rounded face, weight gain, high blood sugar, swelling, low potassium, excess hair in women, impotence, stretch marks, acne).
  • Mood changes (depression, irritability, euphoria).
  • Restlessness, anxiety, aggression (with increased physical activity).
  • Blurred vision.
  • Increased risk of blood clots, blood vessel inflammation, high blood pressure.
  • Digestive problems, stomach ulcers, constipation.
  • Allergic rash, bleeding under the skin (red spots), slow wound healing, skin reactions (contact dermatitis), bruising.
  • Muscle and joint pain, muscle weakness, muscle twitching.
  • Fragile bones (osteoporosis), bone death (due to poor blood circulation).
  • Fatigue and general feeling of illness.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to budesonide or any other ingredient, or if you have severe liver disease (cirrhosis).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have tuberculosis, high blood pressure, diabetes (or family history of it), osteoporosis, stomach ulcers, glaucoma or other eye problems, liver problems, or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have infections or if you have been exposed to chickenpox or shingles and have not had them before.
  • Inform your doctor before any vaccination or surgery.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other eye problems.

  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter ones, as Budenofalk can affect or be affected by them. Avoid grapefruit juice.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use Budenofalk only as directed by your doctor.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
