How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your dose; it is usually 25-100 mg for adults and children over 50 kg, 0.5-2 mg per kg for children 20-50 kg, and 0.5-2.5 mg per kg for children 10-20 kg, taken twice daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 200 mg per day, or as directed by your doctor, especially if you have liver problems.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness or dizziness
  • Flu
  • Feeling very tired
  • Convulsions, feeling dizzy (vertigo)
  • Nausea and vomiting, constipation
  • Depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, irritability
  • Nose and throat infections (like a common cold), cough
  • Decreased appetite
  • Restlessness and overactivity (hyperactivity) (mostly in children)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Unusual thoughts or losing touch with reality (psychotic disorder), aggressive behavior, agitation
  • Thoughts or attempts to harm yourself or suicide: tell your doctor immediately
  • Decrease in white blood cells (neutropenia), seen in blood tests
  • Widespread rash with blisters and skin peeling, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor right away.
  • If you have liver problems, tell your doctor as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • If you experience a severe skin rash with blisters or peeling, or any signs of a serious allergic reaction (like swelling of the face or throat), stop taking this medicine and seek urgent medical help.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make side effects worse.
  • This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as its effects on the unborn baby or breastfed child are unknown.
