How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose. Take the medicine twice a day, about 12 hours apart. For adults and adolescents weighing 50 kg or more, the usual dose is 25-100 mg twice daily. For children and adolescents weighing less than 50 kg, the dose is based on body weight.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and adolescents weighing 50 kg or more is 200 mg (100 mg twice daily).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness, dizziness
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Severe tiredness (fatigue)
  • Convulsions, spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Nausea and vomiting, constipation
  • Depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, irritability
  • Nose and throat infections (like common cold), cough
  • Decreased appetite
  • Restlessness and hyperactivity (in children)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Abnormal thoughts and/or loss of touch with reality (psychotic disorder), aggression, nervousness (agitation)
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide (tell your doctor immediately)
  • Decrease in white blood cells (neutropenia), shown in blood tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to brivaracetam, similar medicines like levetiracetam or piracetam, or any other ingredients.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you get a severe rash, blisters, or skin peeling (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Inform your doctor if you have liver problems; your dose might need adjustment (e.g., maximum 150 mg per day for adults weighing 50 kg or more).
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

  • Always tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, including rifampicin (for infections) and St. John's wort (a herbal medicine), as they can affect this medicine.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make side effects worse.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as its effects on the baby are not known. Do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor.
  • This medicine can make you drowsy, dizzy, or tired. Do not drive or operate machines until you know how it affects you.
  • This medicine contains lactose. If you have a sugar intolerance, talk to your doctor.
