How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the right dose. Take it twice a day, about 12 hours apart. For adults and children over 50 kg, it's usually 25–100 mg twice daily. For children under 50 kg, the dose depends on their weight, typically 0.5–2.5 mg per kg twice daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and children over 50 kg is usually 200 mg (100 mg twice daily). If you have liver problems, your doctor might give you a lower maximum dose, such as 150 mg per day (75 mg twice daily). The maximum dose for children under 50 kg depends on their weight, and will be set by their doctor (up to 4 mg/kg per day).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy or dizzy.
  • Feeling very tired (fatigue).
  • Convulsions (seizures), feeling like you are spinning (vertigo).
  • Feeling sick (nausea) and vomiting, constipation.
  • Depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping (insomnia), irritability.
  • Nose and throat infections (like a cold), cough.
  • Decreased appetite.
  • Restlessness and overactivity (often seen in children).
RARE
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Unusual thoughts or losing touch with reality (psychosis), aggressive behavior, feeling very agitated (restless).
  • Low white blood cell count (neutropenia), seen in blood tests.
  • Severe widespread rash with blisters and skin peeling, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to brivaracetam, similar medicines (like levetiracetam or piracetam), or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash with blisters or peeling skin, especially around your mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as your dose might need to be adjusted.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make side effects worse.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the effects on pregnancy and the baby are not known. Discuss birth control with your doctor if you can become pregnant.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can increase your seizures.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy, dizzy, or tired. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
