How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 25-100 mg twice daily for adults and children weighing 50 kg or more. For children weighing 20-50 kg, it's 0.5-2 mg per kg twice daily. For children weighing 10-20 kg, it's 0.5-2.5 mg per kg twice daily. Your doctor will find the best dose for you.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of liquid. You can take the medicine with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and children weighing 50 kg or more is 200 mg per day. For children weighing 20-50 kg, it's 4 mg per kg per day. For children weighing 10-20 kg, it's 5 mg per kg per day. Your doctor may adjust this if you have liver problems.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy or dizzy.
  • Flu-like symptoms (e.g., stuffy nose, sore throat, cough).
  • Feeling very tired (fatigue).
  • Nausea (feeling sick), vomiting, or constipation.
  • Depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping (insomnia), or irritability.
  • Decreased appetite.
  • Restlessness and overactivity (in children).
RARE
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Unusual thoughts, loss of touch with reality (psychotic disorder), aggression, or agitation.
  • Thoughts or attempts to harm yourself or commit suicide (report to your doctor immediately).
  • A decrease in white blood cells (neutropenia), seen in blood tests.
  • Widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome). This is a severe skin reaction.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to brivaracetam or any other ingredients.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek medical help right away if you get a severe skin rash with blisters or peeling, especially around your mouth, nose, eyes, or genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Inform your doctor if you have liver problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years old.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase the negative effects of alcohol.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, talk to your doctor. It's not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding as its effects on the unborn baby or infant are unknown.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first, as stopping suddenly can increase your seizures.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy, dizzy, or tired. Do not drive, cycle, or use tools or machines until you know how it affects you.
