How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. It's usually taken twice a day, about 12 hours apart.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor prescribes. For adults, this is usually up to 200 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy or dizzy
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Feeling very tired
  • Feeling like things are spinning (vertigo)
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting), constipation
  • Feeling down (depression), worried (anxiety), trouble sleeping, feeling easily annoyed
  • Nose and throat infections (like a cold), cough
  • Loss of appetite
  • Restlessness and being overly active (in children)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Unusual thoughts, losing touch with reality, aggressive behavior, feeling agitated
  • Thoughts or attempts to harm yourself or commit suicide
  • A drop in white blood cells (shown in blood tests)
  • Severe widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to brivaracetam or similar medicines (like levetiracetam or piracetam) or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash with blisters or peeling skin, especially around your mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life. Some people taking epilepsy medicines have had these thoughts.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make side effects worse.

  • This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as its effects on the baby are not known.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy, dizzy, or tired. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
