How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose. You usually take it twice a day, about 12 hours apart. For adults and children 50 kg or more: 25-100 mg twice daily. For children 20-50 kg: 0.5-2 mg per kg twice daily. For children 10-20 kg: 0.5-2.5 mg per kg twice daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

If you have liver problems, the maximum daily dose for adults and children 50 kg or more is 150 mg (75 mg twice daily). For children 20-50 kg, it is 3 mg/kg (1.5 mg/kg twice daily). For children 10-20 kg, it is 4 mg/kg (2 mg/kg twice daily).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness or dizziness
  • Flu
  • Feeling very tired (exhaustion)
  • Seizures or a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation
  • Depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping (insomnia), irritability
  • Nose and throat infections (like common cold), cough
  • Decreased appetite
  • Restlessness and hyperactivity (in children)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Unusual thoughts or losing touch with reality (psychotic disorder), aggressive behavior, agitation (restlessness)
  • Decrease in white blood cells (neutropenia), seen in blood tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to brivaracetam, similar medicines (like levetiracetam or piracetam), or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash, skin peeling, blisters, or sores in your mouth, nose, or eyes.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years old.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make side effects worse.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as its effects on the baby are not known.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can increase your seizures.
