How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose. Typically, 25-100 mg twice daily for adults and children over 50 kg. For children under 50 kg, the dose is 0.5-2.5 mg per kg body weight twice daily.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food. 100 mg tablets can be divided into four equal parts.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and children over 50 kg is 200 mg. For children under 50 kg, the maximum daily dose is 4 mg per kg body weight (for children 10-20 kg, 5 mg per kg body weight). For patients with liver problems, the dose is lower; consult your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy or dizzy.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Feeling very tired (fatigue).
  • Convulsions, feeling of spinning (vertigo).
  • Nausea and vomiting, constipation.
  • Depression, anxiety, difficulty sleeping (insomnia), irritability.
  • Nose and throat infections (like a common cold), cough.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Restlessness and overactivity (psychomotor hyperactivity) in children.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Unusual thoughts and/or losing touch with reality (psychotic disorder), aggressive behavior, nervous agitation.
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide: tell your doctor immediately.
  • Decrease in white blood cells (neutropenia), shown in blood tests.
  • Widespread rash with blistering and peeling skin, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

Important Warnings

  • If you have suicidal thoughts or thoughts of harming yourself, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to brivaracetam or any other ingredient.
  • Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a severe rash, blistering, or peeling skin (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Drinking alcohol is not recommended with this medicine, as it may increase the negative effects of alcohol.

  • Do not stop taking the medicine without first talking to your doctor, as this can increase your seizures.
  • This medicine may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
