How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your exact daily dose, which is usually split into two equal doses about 12 hours apart. For adults and children weighing 50 kg or more, the recommended dose is 25–100 mg twice daily. For children weighing 10–50 kg, the dose is 0.5–2.5 mg per kg body weight twice daily, depending on their weight group.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food. 100 mg tablets can be divided into four equal parts.

Important

Your doctor will determine your appropriate maximum daily dose. For patients with liver problems, the maximum daily dose is usually lower: for adults and adolescents weighing 50 kg or more, up to 75 mg twice daily; for children and adolescents weighing 20–50 kg, up to 1.5 mg/kg twice daily; for children weighing 10–20 kg, up to 2 mg/kg twice daily.

COMMON
  • Drowsiness, dizziness
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Seizures, spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation
  • Depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, irritability
  • Nose and throat infections (like common cold), cough
  • Decreased appetite
  • Restlessness and hyperactivity (in children)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Unusual thoughts or loss of touch with reality, aggression, agitation
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide (tell your doctor right away)
  • Low white blood cell count (seen in blood tests)
  • Widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin, especially around the mouth, nose, eyes, and genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to brivaracetam, similar medicines (like levetiracetam or piracetam), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Stop taking and get medical help right away if you have ever had a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores after taking brivaracetam.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make alcohol's side effects worse.
