How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults is 62.5 mg twice daily for 4 weeks. After that, your doctor may increase the dose to 125 mg twice daily, depending on how you respond.

Method

Take tablets with water in the morning and evening, with or without food. You can also dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water to take it as a liquid.

Important

The maximum typical daily dose is 125 mg twice daily (total 250 mg).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Swelling (in legs, ankles, or other signs of fluid retention)
  • Hot flashes or skin redness
  • Allergic reactions (including skin inflammation, itching, and rash)
  • Acid reflux
  • Diarrhea
  • Fainting
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Stuffy nose
RARE
  • Low platelet count
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Increased liver enzyme levels and liver inflammation, possibly leading to worsening of liver issues and/or yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), swelling (angioedema, usually around eyes, lips, tongue, or throat)
  • Liver scarring (cirrhosis), severe liver dysfunction

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to bosentan or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have liver disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or could become pregnant and are not using reliable birth control, as this medicine can harm an unborn baby.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking ciclosporin A (a medicine used after transplants or for psoriasis).
  • Your doctor will regularly check your liver function and blood levels (for anemia) with blood tests before and during treatment. It is very important to get these tests done.
