Bosentan Accord contains bosentan, which widens blood vessels and is used to treat high blood pressure in the lungs and to reduce new finger and toe ulcers.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 62.5 mg twice daily (morning and evening) for the first four weeks, after which your doctor may increase the dose to 125 mg twice daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets with water in the morning and evening. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 250 mg (125 mg twice daily).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Swelling, especially in legs and ankles
  • Hot flushes or skin redness
  • Allergic reactions, such as rash and itching
  • Stuffy nose
  • Low blood pressure
  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in liver function (shown in blood tests)
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Fainting
  • Heart palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • Heartburn (acid reflux)
RARE
  • Low platelet count
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Liver inflammation and jaundice (yellow skin or eyes)
  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling in the face, tongue, or throat)
  • Liver scarring (cirrhosis)
  • Liver failure

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to bosentan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have liver problems.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or could become pregnant and are not using reliable contraception.
  • Do not use if you are taking ciclosporin A (a medicine used after organ transplants or for psoriasis).
  • Regular blood tests are required during treatment to monitor your liver function and blood count.
