How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1.3 mg/m² based on your body surface area, given twice a week.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection into a vein (intravenously) or under the skin (subcutaneously), typically by a doctor or nurse. The injection into a vein is fast (3-5 seconds), and the injection under the skin is given in the thigh or abdomen.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose and number of treatment cycles based on your treatment plan and how you respond.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nerve damage causing numbness, tingling, burning, or pain in hands or feet.
  • Decrease in red, white blood cell count, or platelet count.
  • Fever.
  • Nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, constipation (possibly with bloating), diarrhea.
  • Tiredness, feeling weak.
  • Muscle pain, bone pain, limb pain, headache, general body pain.
  • Low or high blood pressure, sudden drop in blood pressure when standing (leading to fainting).
  • Impaired kidney function.
  • Dizziness, vertigo, lightheadedness.
  • Chills.
  • Various infections (e.g., pneumonia, flu-like illness, bronchitis, fungal, herpes, bacterial, viral, urinary tract, stomach, intestinal infections, shingles).
  • Skin issues (e.g., rashes, itchy skin, lumps, dry skin, facial redness, broken capillaries, skin redness, hair loss, abnormal hair structure).
  • Swelling in the body, including around the eyes.
  • Mouth or throat issues (e.g., soreness, dry mouth, sores, sore throat, heartburn, belching, flatulence).
  • Changes in taste or weight (loss or gain).
  • Muscle cramps, spasms, or weakness.
  • Blurred vision, eye infection (conjunctivitis), abnormal vision.
  • Nosebleeds.
  • Sleep difficulties or disturbances, sweating, anxiety, mood swings, depression, restlessness, agitation, mental changes, disorientation.
  • Hiccups.
  • Ringing in ears, ear discomfort.
  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity).
  • Problems with insulin production or its effectiveness.
  • Fluid retention.
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath during exercise.
RARE
  • Serious heart problems (e.g., heart failure, heart attack, chest pain, slow or fast heart rate).
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., difficulty breathing, chest pain, dizziness/fainting, severe itching, raised skin bumps, swelling of face, lips, tongue, and/or throat that may cause swallowing difficulty, collapse).
  • Blood clots in veins or lungs.
  • Stroke or bleeding in the brain.
  • Neurological problems (e.g., paralysis, seizures, movement disorders, changes in sensation, tremors, memory impairment, confusion).
  • Liver problems (e.g., inflammation, jaundice - yellowing of skin/eyes, swelling or bleeding from the liver).
  • Eye problems (e.g., irritation, inflammation, watery eyes, pain, dry eyes, infections, eyelid lumps, red/swollen eyelids, discharge, abnormal vision, bleeding, partial or total vision loss, protruding eyes, light sensitivity).
  • Kidney cancer or skin cancer.
  • Pancreas or gallbladder issues (e.g., inflammation, bile duct obstruction, gallstones).
  • Hormonal imbalances (e.g., thyroid overactivity, problems with salt and water absorption).
  • Bone fractures or muscle breakdown (leading to other complications).
  • Swollen lymph nodes.
  • Joint stiffness or pain (e.g., in groin), joint effusion, synovial cysts.
  • Brittle or weak nails.
  • Abnormal protein deposits in vital organs, coma, intestinal ulcers, multi-organ failure, or death.
  • Severe nerve inflammation causing paralysis and breathing difficulties (Guillain-Barré syndrome).
  • Injection site reactions (e.g., redness, pain) or complications related to IV access; severe skin reactions (potentially life-threatening), skin wounds, bruises, falls, injuries, or inflammation/bleeding in blood vessels.
  • Benign cysts.
  • Serious reversible brain condition including seizures, high blood pressure, headache, tiredness, confusion, blindness, or other vision problems (Reversible Posterior Leukoencephalopathy Syndrome, RPLS).
  • Impaired hearing or deafness, ringing in ears.
  • Gum infection.
  • Genital pain, erectile dysfunction.
  • Increased thirst.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to bortezomib, boron, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have certain severe lung or heart diseases.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low red or white blood cell counts, bleeding problems, or low platelet counts.
  • Inform your doctor if you experience diarrhea, constipation, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Report any numbness, tingling, or pain in your hands or feet (neuropathy).

  • Tell your doctor about any heart problems or blood pressure issues you have.
  • Inform your doctor if you have shortness of breath or cough.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of seizures.
  • Inform your doctor if you have shingles (herpes zoster).
  • Watch for muscle cramps, weakness, confusion, vision loss, or breathing difficulties, as these could be signs of tumor lysis syndrome.
  • Report any memory loss, difficulty thinking, problems walking, or vision loss, as these might be signs of a serious brain infection.
  • You will need regular blood tests before and during treatment to check your blood cell counts.
  • If you have mantle cell lymphoma and are taking rituximab with Bortezomib Avansor, tell your doctor if you have or have had hepatitis B, as it can reactivate.
  • Do not use if pregnant unless absolutely necessary, and do not breastfeed during treatment. Women must use effective contraception during treatment and for 8 months after. Men must use effective contraception during treatment and for 5 months after.
  • This medicine may cause tiredness, dizziness, fainting, or blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these side effects.
