Bloctil is a medicine used to treat temporary (acute) diarrhea symptoms in adults when the cause cannot be treated, or as an additional treatment.

How to Use

Dosage

Take 1 capsule three times a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules with a glass of water. It is best to take Bloctil before main meals, but you can take the first capsule at any time of day when you start treatment.

Important

Continue treatment until you have two normal bowel movements, but for no more than 3 days without a doctor's prescription. With a doctor's prescription, treatment can be continued for a maximum of 7 days.

  • Itchy rashes
  • General itching
  • Allergic rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Bloctil if you are allergic to racecadotril or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use Bloctil if you have had a severe rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores after using racecadotril before.
  • Talk to your doctor if your stool contains blood or pus, or if you have a fever. This could mean a bacterial infection that needs medical treatment.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have long-lasting diarrhea or diarrhea caused by antibiotics.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have prolonged or uncontrolled vomiting.
  • Stop using Bloctil and see a doctor right away if you notice severe skin reactions like widespread rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome), or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat with difficulty swallowing or breathing (angioedema).
  • Do not use Bloctil if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Bloctil is not for use in children under 18 years of age.
  • If your doctor has told you that you cannot tolerate some sugars (like lactose), talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
