How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults is 5 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase it to 10 mg daily, and in special cases, up to 20 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, preferably with breakfast. Do not chew the tablet. The tablet can be divided into equal halves.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 20 mg, but if you have severe kidney or liver problems, it's 10 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired, dizzy, or having a headache (especially at the start of treatment, usually goes away in 1-2 weeks).
  • Cold or numb feeling in hands and feet, or worsening of Raynaud's syndrome (fingers and toes turning pale/blue/red with pain) or leg pain when walking (intermittent claudication).
  • Nausea (feeling sick), vomiting (being sick), diarrhea, stomach pain, or constipation.
RARE
  • Feeling sad (depression), trouble sleeping, nightmares, or seeing/hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations).
  • Slow heart rate, problems with heart rhythm, or worsening of heart failure (shortness of breath, swelling).
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up suddenly (due to low blood pressure), or fainting.
  • Difficulty breathing due to narrowed airways (bronchospasm), especially in people with asthma or chronic lung disease.
  • Muscle weakness, muscle cramps, or joint pain.
  • General weakness or lack of energy.
  • Allergic runny nose.
  • Lupus-like syndrome (symptoms like fever, muscle/joint pain, blood vessel inflammation, skin changes).
  • Less tear fluid, which can cause dry eyes (important for contact lens wearers).
  • Hearing problems.
  • Increased fat levels (triglycerides) in the blood, or lowered blood sugar.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels or liver inflammation (can cause upper stomach pain).
  • Allergic skin reactions (itching, redness, rash), or new/worsening psoriasis.
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence).
  • Eye inflammation (conjunctivitis), causing redness and irritation.
  • Hair loss.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to bisoprolol or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not use if you have untreated heart failure that causes shortness of breath or swelling.
  • Do not use if you have very low blood pressure (causing dizziness or fainting) or a very slow heart rate (less than 45-50 beats per minute).
  • Do not use if you have severe asthma or a serious chronic lung disease.
  • Be careful if you have diabetes, as this medicine can hide symptoms of low blood sugar. Your diabetes medicine dose might need adjustment.

  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly. The dose should be gradually reduced. Always talk to your doctor before stopping or changing your dose.
  • If you are having surgery with anesthesia, tell your doctor or anesthesiologist that you are taking this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or tiredness, especially at the start of treatment or with alcohol. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider interactions , especially with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
