How to Use

Dosage

Start with a low dose like 1.25 mg once daily, and your doctor will slowly increase it until a suitable dose is found, usually up to 10 mg once daily for maintenance.

Method

Take this medicine in the morning, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew or crush it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired or exhausted
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Feeling cold or numb in the hands and feet; cramping pain in legs while walking
  • Very low blood pressure, especially in patients with heart failure
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Slowing of heart rate (bradycardia)
  • Worsening of heart failure
RARE
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up too quickly
  • Sleep problems
  • Feeling sad (depression)
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Breathing difficulties (especially if you have asthma or past breathing problems)
  • Muscle weakness and cramps
  • Nightmares
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Fainting
  • Hearing problems
  • Runny nose
  • Allergic skin reactions like itching, redness, or rash
  • Dry eyes (especially difficult for contact lens wearers)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), causing stomach pain, loss of appetite, and sometimes yellow skin or eyes and dark urine
  • Reduced sexual ability (erectile dysfunction)
  • Increased levels of blood fats (triglycerides) and liver enzymes
  • Worsening of psoriasis or similar dry, flaky skin rash and hair loss
  • Itching or redness of the eyes (conjunctivitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to bisoprolol fumarate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe heart problems like heart shock, a very slow heartbeat (under 60 beats per minute), very low blood pressure, severe heart rhythm problems, or recent worsening heart failure requiring hospital care.
  • Do not use if you have severe wheezing or asthma, as this medicine can affect your breathing.
  • Do not use if you have severe circulation problems, which can make your fingers and toes tingle, feel cold, or look pale or blue.
  • Do not use if you have an untreated tumor of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma).

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as this medicine can hide the signs of low blood sugar like a fast heartbeat or sweating.
  • Tell your doctor if you are fasting and not eating solid food.
  • Tell your doctor if you are undergoing treatment for severe allergies, as this medicine can make allergic reactions worse and make adrenaline less effective.
  • Always tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine before any surgery that requires anesthesia.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had psoriasis, as this medicine might worsen it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thyroid problems, as this medicine can hide the signs of an overactive thyroid.
  • Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor, as it can harm the baby.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider interactions , especially with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
