How to Use

Dosage

Usually one 10 mg tablet once daily. For stable chronic heart failure, treatment starts with a low dose (e.g., 1.25 mg) and is gradually increased by your doctor.

Method

Take tablets in the morning before, with, or after breakfast. Swallow whole with water; do not chew or crush. Tablets can be divided into equal doses.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache
  • Coldness or numbness in hands or feet
  • Low blood pressure
  • Digestive problems (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation)
  • Slow heart rate
  • Worsening heart failure
RARE
  • Sleep disorders
  • Depression
  • Dizziness when standing up
  • Breathing difficulties (especially in patients with asthma or chronic lung disease)
  • Muscle weakness and cramps
  • Slow or irregular heart rhythm
  • Hearing problems
  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
  • Reduced tear flow (dry eyes)
  • Liver inflammation or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes
  • Abnormal blood test results for liver function or blood fats
  • Allergic reactions (itching, redness, rash, swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing, or fainting)
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Nightmares, hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis)
  • Hair loss
  • New or worsening psoriasis, or psoriasis-like rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to bisoprolol fumarate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe asthma or a serious long-term lung disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe circulation problems in your limbs, like Raynaud's syndrome, which causes tingling or makes fingers and toes turn pale or blue.
  • Do not take if you have acute heart failure, worsening heart failure requiring IV treatment, a very slow heart rate, very low blood pressure, or cardiogenic shock (a severe heart condition where blood pressure drops too low).
  • Always tell your doctor if you have diabetes, kidney or liver problems, or if you are going to have surgery or allergy treatment (desensitization therapy).
