How to Use

Dosage

One tablet (either 5 mg/12.5 mg or 10 mg/25 mg) once a day, as directed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, without chewing or crushing, preferably with breakfast. You can split the tablet if needed to make it easier to swallow.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is one tablet once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness, dizziness, and headache
  • Cold or numb hands and feet
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation
  • Slight increase in blood cholesterol and fat levels
  • Increased blood sugar and sugar in urine (in diabetics)
  • Increased blood uric acid levels (may lead to gout)
  • Low blood potassium (may cause tiredness, muscle weakness, and heart rhythm problems)
  • Low blood sodium (may cause confusion, headache, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, and in severe cases, coma or seizures)
  • Low blood magnesium (may cause muscle weakness, cramps, increased muscle twitching, and heart rhythm problems) or low chloride
  • High blood calcium (may cause tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, constipation, stomach pain, increased urination, joint and limb pain, confusion, and depression)
RARE
  • Sleep problems and depression
  • Slow heart rate, heart conduction problems, and worsening of heart failure symptoms
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure when standing up (dizziness or fainting)
  • Worsening of asthma or COPD symptoms, or narrowing of airways
  • Loss of appetite, stomach problems
  • Increased blood amylase and pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Muscle weakness and cramps
  • Weakness
  • Increased blood creatinine and urea levels
  • Decreased white blood cells (may lead to cold-like symptoms and infections)
  • Decreased platelets (may cause easy bruising and nosebleeds)
  • Nightmares and hallucinations
  • Decreased tear production (dry eyes) and vision problems
  • Hearing loss
  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
  • Increased liver enzyme levels, jaundice (yellow skin/eyes), and liver inflammation
  • Impotence
  • Allergic reactions (itching, redness, rash, light-sensitive rash, purpura, hives)
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells (may lead to cold-like symptoms, sore throat, fever, and serious infections)
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Chest pain during exertion (angina pectoris)
  • New or worsening psoriasis
  • Hair loss (alopecia)
  • Lupus erythematosus (a disease affecting skin, especially butterfly-shaped rash on face, and other body parts)
  • Skin redness (erythema)
  • Metabolic alkalosis (body fluid imbalance with symptoms like headache, vomiting, and salt balance issues)
  • Acute respiratory distress (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, confusion)
  • Non-melanoma skin and lip cancer
  • Blurred vision or eye pain due to high pressure (possible signs of fluid buildup in the eye or acute narrow-angle glaucoma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to bisoprolol, hydrochlorothiazide, or similar substances.
  • Do not use if you have severe, untreated heart failure, very low blood pressure due to heart problems, a severe heart rhythm disorder, or a heart rate below 60 beats per minute without a pacemaker.
  • Do not use if you have severe asthma or severe COPD (a lung disease).
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney failure with no urine production, or severe liver failure.
  • Do not use if you have untreated severe blood salt imbalances, such as too much calcium or too little potassium/sodium.

  • Do not use if you have gout.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Protect your skin from sun and UV light during treatment, as this medicine may increase the risk of skin cancer.
  • If you experience blurred vision or eye pain, seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you develop severe shortness of breath or breathing problems, seek immediate medical attention.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
