How to Use

Dosage

Typically, treatment starts with 5 mg once daily. For heart failure, the starting dose is 1.25 mg once daily.

Method

Take Bisoprolol Accord tablets whole with water in the morning, with or without food. Do not chew or crush them. Tablets can be divided into equal doses.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg. For heart failure or severe kidney/liver problems, the maximum is 10 mg daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache
  • Cold or numb hands and feet
  • Low blood pressure
  • Stomach or bowel issues like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
RARE
  • Sleep disorders
  • Depression
  • Dizziness when standing up
  • Breathing difficulties (in patients with asthma or chronic lung disease)
  • Muscle weakness or cramps
  • Hearing problems
  • Allergic rhinitis (stuffy or runny nose)
  • Reduced tear flow (may affect contact lens wearers)
  • Liver inflammation (which can cause yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Abnormal blood test results for liver function or blood fats
  • Allergic reactions (itching, redness, rash; contact doctor for severe reactions like swelling of face or throat, or breathing difficulties)
  • Erection problems
  • Nightmares, hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis)
  • Hair loss
  • New or worsening psoriasis-like skin rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to bisoprolol fumarate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe asthma or severe chronic lung disease.
  • Do not take if you have sudden or worsening heart failure, a very slow or irregular heartbeat, or very low blood pressure.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine as it may harm the child. Breastfeeding is not recommended.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly or change your dose without talking to your doctor first, as it can worsen your condition.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider interactions , especially with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
