Dosage

The doctor will decide how much of this medicine you receive, as the dose depends on your condition.

Method

This medicine is given directly into your vein in a hospital, only by trained healthcare staff during dialysis treatment.

Important

For adults, the total amount of fluid used for continuous kidney replacement therapy is typically about 48–60 liters per day (2000-2500 ml per hour).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood salt balance, such as too low calcium (hypocalcemia), too high potassium (hyperkalemia), or too high phosphate (hyperphosphatemia).
  • Decrease in blood bicarbonate levels (metabolic acidosis).
  • Too much (hypervolemia) or too little (hypovolemia) fluid in the body.
  • Drop in blood pressure.
  • Nausea, vomiting.
  • Muscle cramps.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if your blood calcium level is too low. The medicine does not contain calcium, and you may need extra calcium.
  • Do not use if your blood potassium level is too high. Your doctor will monitor your potassium levels during treatment.
  • Do not use if your blood phosphate level is too high.
  • The liquids in the bag must be thoroughly mixed before use. Only use if the package and bag connections are intact and the liquid is clear and colorless.

  • Your doctor will regularly monitor your blood values, fluid balance, and acid-base balance during treatment.
  • Since Biphozyl does not contain glucose, your doctor will monitor your blood sugar levels and may administer glucose if needed.
