Bioclavid is an antibiotic that kills bacteria causing infections, containing two active ingredients, amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

How to Use

Dosage

For children under 40 kg, the usual dose is 25 mg/3.6 mg to 45 mg/6.4 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided into two doses.

Method

Always shake the bottle well before each dose. Take the medicine with food. Doses should be taken evenly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between doses, and never two doses within 1 hour.

Important

The maximum daily dose should not exceed 70 mg/10 mg per kg of body weight, divided into two doses. Do not use for more than 2 weeks.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea (loose stools) in adults.
  • Yeast infections (like thrush) in the mouth, private areas, or skin folds.
  • Feeling sick (nausea), especially with larger doses. Taking with food helps.
  • Vomiting (throwing up).
  • Diarrhea (loose stools) in children.
RARE
  • Skin rash, itching, or red, raised itchy spots (hives).
  • Upset stomach (indigestion).
  • Feeling dizzy.
  • Headache.
  • Higher levels of certain liver enzymes (seen in blood tests).
  • A rash with blisters that look like small targets (dark spot in the middle, lighter area, dark ring).
  • Lower number of blood cells that help clotting or fight infection (seen in blood tests).
  • Serious allergic reaction with skin rash, fever, swollen joints, swollen face or throat, trouble breathing, or chest pain.
  • Swelling of the large bowel (colon) causing watery diarrhea, often with blood and mucus, stomach pain, and fever.
  • Severe, ongoing stomach pain (acute pancreatitis).
  • A special allergic reaction mainly in children with repeated vomiting, stomach pain, extreme tiredness, diarrhea, and low blood pressure.
  • Crystals in the urine that can harm the kidneys.
  • Severe skin reactions like widespread blistering, peeling skin, flu-like symptoms, or rash with pus-filled spots.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) due to too much bilirubin.
  • Inflammation of the small tubes in the kidneys.
  • Blood takes longer to clot than usual.
  • Feeling overly active.
  • Seizures (fits), especially with high doses or kidney problems.
  • Black, hairy-looking tongue.
  • Stains on teeth (in children), usually removable by brushing.
  • A serious drop in the number of white blood cells.
  • Low red blood cell count due to premature breakdown (hemolytic anemia).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic, such as a rash or swelling of the face or throat.
  • Do not use if you have had liver problems or jaundice when taking antibiotics before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have glandular fever (mononucleosis).
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.

  • Tell your doctor if you are not urinating regularly.
  • Contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine, which can be harmful for people with phenylketonuria (PKU).
  • Contains glucose and sorbitol; talk to your doctor if you have a sugar intolerance.
  • Contains benzyl alcohol; consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, are pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially allopurinol, probenecid, warfarin, methotrexate, or mycophenolate mofetil.
