How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and children weighing 40 kg or more is one tablet two times a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water, with a meal. Tablets can be broken along the score line to make swallowing easier, but both halves must be taken at the same time. Take doses evenly throughout the day, with at least 4 hours between doses, and do not take two doses within one hour.

Important

Do not use Bioclavid for more than two weeks. Your doctor will prescribe the exact maximum dose, but generally, it is no more than three tablets per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea (in adults)
  • Yeast infection (vaginal, oral, or skin fold)
  • Nausea (especially with high doses)
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea (in children)
RARE
  • Rash and itching
  • Itchy, raised rash (hives)
  • Indigestion
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Increased liver enzyme levels in blood tests
  • Rash with blisters resembling small targets (erythema multiforme)
  • Decrease in blood platelet count
  • Decrease in white blood cell count
  • Meningitis (inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord)
  • Severe skin reactions, such as widespread rash, blisters and peeling skin (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Widespread red rash with small pus-filled blisters (bullous exfoliative dermatitis)
  • Red, scaly rash with bumps and blisters under the skin (exanthematous pustulosis)
  • Flu-like symptoms, rash, fever, swollen glands, and abnormal blood test results (DRESS syndrome)
  • Blistering rash forming a pearl-like circle with a scab in the center (linear IgA disease)
  • Crystals in urine, which can lead to acute kidney damage
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Jaundice, which makes the skin and whites of the eyes yellow
  • Inflammation of kidney tubules
  • Slower blood clotting
  • Hyperactivity
  • Seizures (especially with high doses or kidney problems)
  • Black hairy tongue
  • Significant decrease in white blood cell count
  • Low red blood cell count (hemolytic anemia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have had a severe allergic reaction to a previous antibiotic treatment, such as a rash or swelling of the face or throat.
  • Do not use if you have had liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin) while taking an antibiotic before.
