How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will prescribe your dose and treatment duration based on your individual needs. For adults, a typical dose is 2000-3000 ml per exchange, several times a day or night.

Method

Use bicaVera only inside your abdomen (intraperitoneally). The solution must be warmed to body temperature, and the contents of the two-chamber bag must be mixed before use.

Important

The maximum daily dose is determined by your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Peritonitis (inflammation of the abdominal lining), with symptoms like cloudy fluid, abdominal pain, fever, nausea, or rarely blood poisoning.
  • Skin infection at the catheter exit site, with symptoms like redness, swelling, pain, discharge, or hardening.
  • Abdominal hernia.
  • Problems with dialysate (fluid) inflow and outflow.
  • Feeling of abdominal stretching or fullness.
  • Shoulder pain.
  • Potassium deficiency.
  • High blood sugar levels.
  • High blood fat levels.
  • Weight gain.
RARE
  • Diarrhea.
  • Constipation.
  • Breathing difficulties due to an elevated diaphragm.
  • Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (a serious complication) with symptoms like abdominal pain, swollen abdomen, or vomiting.
  • Calcium deficiency.
  • Decrease in body fluid levels, leading to rapid weight loss.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Increased heart rate.
  • Increase in body fluid levels, leading to rapid weight gain.
  • Fluid in tissues and lungs.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Breathing difficulties.
  • Overactive parathyroid gland, which can cause bone metabolism disorders.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if your blood potassium or calcium levels are very low, or if your body fluid levels are too low.
  • Do not start peritoneal dialysis if you have new abdominal injuries, severe burns, inflamed skin areas, or peritonitis (inflammation of the abdominal lining).
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience severe abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, vomiting, or if the fluid drained from your abdomen (dialysate) is cloudy.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a severe electrolyte imbalance (salt imbalance) due to vomiting and/or diarrhea.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, as this medicine should only be used if absolutely necessary.
