How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 2000–2500 ml of solution four times a day.

Method

The medicine is used directly in the abdominal cavity as directed; the solution bag is warmed and the liquids are mixed before use.

Important

Your doctor determines the maximum daily amount, but for CAPD treatment, it can be up to 10 liters.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Peritonitis (inflammation of the abdominal lining), with symptoms like cloudy dialysate, abdominal pain, fever, or nausea.
  • Infection at the catheter's exit site or tunnel, with symptoms like redness, swelling, pain, or discharge.
  • Abdominal hernia (a bulge in the abdomen).
  • Problems with the inflow or outflow of the dialysis solution.
  • Feeling of fullness or stretching in the stomach.
  • Shoulder pain.
  • Potassium deficiency.
  • High blood sugar levels.
  • High blood fat levels.
  • Weight gain (often due to fluid retention).
RARE
  • Diarrhea.
  • Constipation.
  • Breathing difficulties (e.g., due to the diaphragm rising).
  • Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS), a serious complication with possible symptoms like severe abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, or vomiting.
  • Calcium deficiency.
  • Rapid weight loss due to decreased body fluid.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Increased heart rate.
  • Fluid in tissues and lungs.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Overactive parathyroid glands, which can lead to problems with bone metabolism.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if your blood potassium or calcium levels are very low.
  • Treatment should not be started if you have an abdominal injury, surgery, severe inflammation, peritonitis, bleeding wounds, hernia, or tumors in the abdominal area.
  • Inform your doctor if you have inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, severe lung disease, blood poisoning, very high blood fat levels, uremia not treatable by peritoneal dialysis, or severe malnutrition.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have a severe electrolyte imbalance (salt deficiency) due to vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have overactive parathyroid glands or very low blood calcium levels.
