How to Use
Dosage
The doctor will decide your dose based on the type of surgery and area to be numbed. For adults and children over 40 kg, the highest dose is usually 20 mg of bupivacaine (4 ml of 5 mg/ml solution).
Method
This medicine is given as an injection directly into the fluid around your spinal cord.

Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Headache after the injection
- •Feeling dizzy or faint from low blood pressure
- •Heart beating slower than usual
- •Feeling sick to your stomach
- •Throwing up
- •Trouble peeing
- •Not being able to control your pee
RARE
- •Weakness or inability to move your muscles
- •Tingling, numbness, or odd feelings in your skin
- •Pain in your back
- •Swelling around the brain or spinal cord, like meningitis or arachnoiditis (which can cause sleepiness, joint pain, fever, fast breathing)
- •Very serious problems with breathing, your heart, or blood flow, which could be life-threatening
- •A very bad allergic reaction that could include rash, swelling, and trouble breathing (anaphylactic shock)
- •Damage to nerves outside the brain and spinal cord
- •A rare problem affecting nerves to the eye and face
Important Warnings
- Do not use Bicain Spinal if you are allergic to bupivacaine, other similar numbing medicines, or any other part of this medicine.
- Do not use if you have an infection where the injection needs to be given.
- Do not use if you have problems with blood clotting or take blood thinning medicines.
- Do not use if you have serious brain or spinal cord diseases, such as meningitis, blood poisoning, bleeding in the head, or high pressure in your head.
- Do not use if you have severe heart problems, very low blood volume, or are in shock.

- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, elderly, an infant, or have breathing issues, nerve problems, or liver/kidney disease.
- After receiving this medicine, do not drive or use machines until you feel completely normal again.
