How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is one 400 mg prolonged-release tablet once a day.

Method

Take the tablet whole with enough liquid, preferably with or after a meal, either in the morning or evening. Do not crush or chew it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 400 mg (one tablet). Do not take more than your doctor has prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Loss of appetite
  • Stomach or bowel problems (digestive upset)
RARE
  • Allergic reactions (e.g. rash, itching, severe allergic reactions)
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Abdominal bloating, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, feeling full, gas, vomiting
  • Blocked bile flow (cholestasis)
  • Itching, hives, sensitivity to light, hair loss, rash
  • Muscle weakness, muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Sudden kidney problems
  • Erectile dysfunction (problems getting or keeping an erection)
  • Increased blood test values (e.g., creatinine, liver enzymes)
  • Decreased blood test values (e.g., hemoglobin, white blood cells)
  • Depression, insomnia (difficulty sleeping)
  • Nerve damage, unusual sensations
  • Very low blood cell counts (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets)
  • Lung disease
  • Gallstones
  • Skin reactions (purple spots, severe rash, blistering)
  • Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Increased GGT blood test values

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Bezalip if you are allergic to bezafibrate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Bezalip if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take Bezalip if you have a gallbladder disease, such as gallstones or inflammation.
  • Do not take Bezalip if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take Bezalip if you have kidney failure or are on dialysis.

  • Do not take Bezalip if you have a condition that increases your risk of muscle disease, such as kidney failure, severe infection, injury, surgery, or hormone/electrolyte imbalance.
  • Do not take Bezalip if you have photoallergy or have had a phototoxic reaction to fibrate medicines.
