How to Use

Dosage

Typically, 4-10 capsules are taken once a day.

Method

Take the capsules with a meal, around the same time each day. Swallow them whole; do not chew.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, typically within the recommended range of 4-10 capsules.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low white blood cell count.
  • Decreased thyroid hormone levels.
  • Increased blood fat levels (triglycerides and cholesterol).
  • Skin reactions (itching, redness, irritation, peeling skin).
  • Headache, tiredness, pain.
  • Low red blood cell count, enlarged lymph nodes, worsening of lymphoma.
  • Thyroid disorder.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels, reduced kidney function, low blood protein levels, weight gain.
  • Insomnia, dizziness, reduced skin sensation.
  • Dry eyes, deafness, abnormal eye sensations, including irritation and heaviness.
  • Swelling of legs and arms.
  • Nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, dry lips, loss of appetite, constipation, excessive gas, abnormal liver values, vomiting.
  • Dry skin, skin disorders, hair loss, skin ulcers, acne, thickened skin, skin nodules, increased sweating.
  • Joint pain, bone pain, muscle aches.
  • Chills, abdominal pain, allergic reaction, infection.
RARE
  • Blood disorders, such as high levels of certain blood cells (eosinophils, leukocytes, lymphocytes), skin bruises, high or low platelet counts.
  • Overactive thyroid.
  • Increased bilirubin in blood, reduced kidney function, gout, decreased HDL-cholesterol.
  • Agitation, balance problems, depression, increased skin sensitivity to touch, abnormal sensations, vertigo.
  • Abnormal vision, blurred vision, eyelid inflammation, cataracts, conjunctivitis (inflammation of the white part of the eye), corneal ulcers, ear disorder, visual field defects.
  • Swelling, bleeding, high blood pressure, rapid pulse, visible vein enlargement, blood vessel dilation.
  • Digestive disorders, liver failure, pancreatitis.
  • Hair changes, herpes simplex (e.g., cold sores), nail disorders, pustular rash, watery rash, skin pigmentation disorders.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Protein in urine, abnormal kidney function.
  • Back pain, skin infections, fever, parasitic infection, abnormal lab values, mucous membrane disorders, tumors.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to bexarotene or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or could become pregnant and are not using effective birth control.
  • Do not take if you have a history of pancreatitis, high blood fat levels (cholesterol or triglycerides), too much Vitamin A (hypervitaminosis A), poor liver function, or an ongoing infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you are sensitive to retinoids (like Vitamin A), have liver disease, high blood fat levels, uncontrolled diabetes, gallbladder or bile duct problems, or drink a lot of alcohol.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had mental health problems like depression or aggressive tendencies, as this medicine can affect your mood.

  • Blood fat levels should be checked before starting treatment, weekly at first, and then monthly during treatment.
  • Before and during treatment, blood tests will be done to check your liver and thyroid function, and red and white blood cell counts.
  • If you have vision problems while taking this medicine, your eyes may need to be checked regularly.
  • Avoid sunlight and sunbeds as much as possible.
  • Do not take more than 15,000 international units of Vitamin A supplements per day during treatment.
  • This medicine can affect your mood and behavior. Tell your friends and family, as they might notice changes you don't. Discuss any issues with your doctor.
  • Bexarotene Amdipharm should not be used by children or adolescents.
  • Butylhydroxyanisole in the capsules can irritate mucous membranes. Swallow capsules whole; do not chew.
  • If you can become pregnant, you must have a pregnancy test before treatment and use effective birth control for one month before, during, and one month after treatment. Two forms of birth control are recommended.
  • Men taking bexarotene must use a condom if their partner is pregnant or can become pregnant, for one month after the last dose.
  • If you feel dizzy or have vision problems during treatment, do not drive or use machines.
