Berinert is used to treat hereditary angioedema (HAE) and to prevent swelling before medical procedures.
For acute attacks, typically 20 IU per kg body weight. For prevention before a procedure, adults receive 1000 IU and children 15-30 IU per kg, given up to 6 hours before the procedure.
The medicine is given slowly as an injection into a vein.
