How to Use

Dosage

The dosage varies and is calculated by your doctor based on your body surface area.

Method

This medicine is given as an infusion into a vein over 30-60 minutes.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 120-150 mg per square meter of body surface area, as determined by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low white blood cell count (cells that fight disease)
  • Decreased hemoglobin levels (protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen)
  • Low platelet count (cells that help blood clot)
  • Infections
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Mucositis (inflammation of mucous membranes)
  • Increased creatinine levels in blood (a waste product from muscles)
  • Increased urea levels in blood (a chemical waste product)
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Bleeding
  • Metabolic disorders due to waste products from cancer cell breakdown
  • Reduced red blood cell count, causing paleness, weakness, or shortness of breath (anemia)
  • Low neutrophil count (a type of white blood cell that fights infections)
  • Hypersensitivity reactions, e.g., allergic rash and hives
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (ASAT/ALAT), which can indicate liver cell inflammation or damage
  • Increased alkaline phosphatase (AFOS) levels (an enzyme mainly produced in the liver and bones)
  • Increased bilirubin levels (a substance formed from the normal breakdown of red blood cells)
  • Decreased blood potassium levels (a nutrient needed for nerve and muscle cell function, including in the heart)

  • Fluid buildup around the heart (pericardial effusion)

  • Heart failure
  • Blood poisoning (sepsis)
  • Severe allergic hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylactic reactions)
  • Symptoms resembling anaphylactic reactions
  • Drowsiness
  • Hoarseness
  • Acute circulatory failure (mainly heart-related)
  • Skin redness (erythema)
  • Rash (dermatitis)
  • Itching (pruritus)
  • Macular rash (macular exanthem)
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Bone marrow failure, which can cause malaise and show in blood tests
  • Primary, atypical pneumonia
  • Breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis)
  • Rapid drop in blood pressure, sometimes with skin reactions or rash (anaphylactic shock)
  • Taste disorders
  • Sensory disturbances
  • Peripheral nerve damage (discomfort and pain in limbs)
  • Serious condition leading to nerve receptor dysfunction (anticholinergic syndrome)
  • Nervous system disorders
  • Coordination disorders (ataxia)

  • Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • Vein inflammation (phlebitis)
  • Fibrosis in the lungs (pulmonary fibrosis)
  • Esophageal inflammation with bleeding (hemorrhagic esophagitis)
  • Stomach or intestinal bleeding
  • Infertility
  • Multiple organ failure
  • Kidney failure
  • Liver failure
  • Irregular and often rapid heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Severe rash with blisters or peeling skin (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Drug rash with combination therapy including rituximab
  • Lung inflammation (pneumonitis)
  • Lung bleeding
  • Excessive urination, including at night, and excessive thirst even after drinking fluids (nephrogenic diabetes insipidus)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to bendamustine or any other ingredients.
  • You must not breastfeed during treatment.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems or very low white blood cell or platelet counts due to poor bone marrow function.
  • Do not use if you had a major surgery in the last 30 days.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an infection, especially with a low white blood cell count.

  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart problems like heart attacks or chest pain.
  • Get immediate medical help if you get a severe rash with blisters, peeling skin, or sores in your mouth, eyes, or genitals, possibly with fever.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you notice memory loss, trouble thinking, difficulty walking, or vision changes, as these can be signs of a serious brain infection.
  • Talk to your doctor if you notice any suspicious skin changes, as this medicine may increase your risk of certain skin cancers.
  • Do not use with yellow fever vaccine.
