How to Use

Dosage

For adults, typically 2000-3000 ml of solution is used four times a day for CAPD, or 2000-3000 ml per exchange, 3-10 times during an 8-10 hour night treatment, plus 1-2 daytime exchanges for APD.

Method

This medicine is for use inside your abdomen (intraperitoneally). It comes in a two-chamber bag, and the solutions must be mixed and warmed to body temperature before use according to your doctor's instructions.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose, which can vary based on your treatment type (e.g., up to 12,000 ml per day for CAPD or up to 3000 ml per exchange for APD with multiple exchanges).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Peritonitis (abdominal infection) with symptoms like cloudy drained fluid, stomach pain, fever, feeling unwell, or very rarely blood poisoning.
  • Skin infection at the catheter exit site or tunnel, with symptoms like redness, swelling, pain, discharge, or hardening.
  • Hernia (bulge in the abdomen).
  • Low potassium levels.
  • High calcium levels (if calcium intake is too high).
  • High blood sugar levels.
  • High blood fat levels.
  • Weight gain.
  • Problems with the inflow and outflow of dialysis solution.
  • Abdominal swelling or feeling of fullness.
  • Shoulder pain.
RARE
  • Diarrhea.
  • Constipation.
  • Blood poisoning (sepsis).
  • Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS), with possible symptoms like stomach pain, swollen abdomen, or vomiting.
  • Decreased body fluid (dehydration), leading to rapid weight loss, low blood pressure, or fast heart rate.
  • Increased body fluid (fluid retention), causing swelling in tissues and lungs, high blood pressure, or breathing difficulties.
  • Dizziness.
  • Breathing difficulties.
  • General feeling of being unwell.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you have very low blood potassium, very high blood calcium, are severely dehydrated, have low blood pressure, or a condition called lactic acidosis.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you notice cloudy drainage fluid, stomach pain, fever, or feel unwell, as these could be signs of a serious infection (peritonitis).
  • Get immediate medical help if you experience severe stomach pain, a swollen belly, or vomiting, as these can be signs of a life-threatening complication called Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS).
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe electrolyte (salt) imbalance due to prolonged vomiting or diarrhea.
  • This solution contains a lot of glucose, so use it carefully and tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially those for diabetes (insulin/blood sugar-lowering medicines), heart problems (digoxin), or medicines affecting calcium and urine output.
