How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose is 2000-3000 ml of solution, four times a day. Your doctor will decide your exact dose based on your body weight and kidney function.

Method

This medicine is for peritoneal dialysis only. Warm the solution bag to body temperature and mix the two chambers as instructed before infusing it into your abdominal cavity. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 12000 ml of solution, divided into four exchanges over 24 hours, as prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inflammation of the abdominal lining (peritonitis), with symptoms like cloudy drainage fluid, stomach pain, fever, feeling unwell, or very rarely, blood poisoning.
  • Skin infection at the catheter exit site or along the tunnel, with symptoms like redness, swelling, pain, discharge, or hardening.
  • Hernia (a bulge in the abdominal wall).
  • Low potassium levels in your blood.
  • Problems with the inflow or outflow of the dialysis fluid.
  • Abdominal swelling or a feeling of fullness.
  • Shoulder pain.
  • High blood sugar levels.
  • High fat levels in your blood.
  • Weight gain.
RARE
  • Diarrhea.
  • Constipation.
  • Blood poisoning (sepsis).
  • Breathing difficulties.
  • General feeling of being unwell.
  • Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS), a serious condition that can cause stomach pain, abdominal swelling, or vomiting.
  • Low calcium levels in your blood.
  • Changes in body fluid levels (dehydration with rapid weight loss, low blood pressure, fast heart rate; or fluid overload with swelling, high blood pressure, breathing difficulties).
  • Dizziness.
  • Overactive parathyroid gland, which can affect bone health.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if your blood has very low potassium or calcium, or if you have a condition called metabolic acidosis.
  • Peritoneal dialysis may not be suitable if you have certain abdominal conditions like recent surgery, burns, hernias, or abdominal infections. Your doctor will advise you.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have severe vomiting or diarrhea, as this can upset your body's salt balance.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice signs of peritonitis, such as cloudy drained fluid, stomach pain, fever, or feeling unwell.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have severe abdominal pain, swelling, or vomiting, as these can be signs of a serious and life-threatening complication called Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS).
