How to Use

Dosage

The doctor will determine your dose after testing how you respond to the medicine. Treatment starts with a small dose and is slowly increased over a few days under medical supervision until the right dose is found.

Method

Baclofen Sintetica is given as an injection directly into the spinal fluid. If the medicine works for you, a special pump will be implanted under your skin (usually in the chest or abdomen) to deliver the medicine continuously.

Important

The maximum daily dose is decided by your doctor based on your individual needs and how you respond to the treatment.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired, sleepy, or weak
  • Reduced muscle tone
  • Headache, dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Pain, fever or chills
  • Seizures
  • Numbness or tingling in hands or feet
  • Vision problems
  • Slurred speech
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Breathing difficulties, pneumonia
  • Confusion, anxiety, agitation or depression
  • Low blood pressure (fainting)
  • Nausea or vomiting, constipation or diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite, dry mouth or too much saliva
  • Rash and itching, swelling of face or hands and feet
  • Urinary incontinence or problems urinating
  • Muscle cramps
  • Sexual problems in men
  • Sedation
RARE
  • Feeling unusually cold
  • Memory loss
  • Feeling of euphoria (intense happiness), hallucinations, or thoughts of suicide
  • Difficulty swallowing, loss of taste, dehydration
  • Poor muscle control or coordination (ataxia)
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Slow pulse
  • Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in the leg)
  • Skin redness or paleness, excessive sweating
  • Hair loss
  • Suicide attempts, paranoia
  • Involuntary, rapid eye movements (nystagmus)
  • Bowel obstruction (ileus)
  • Potentially life-threatening withdrawal symptoms
  • Restlessness or general discomfort (dysphoria)
  • Unusually slow breathing
  • Increased side curvature of the spine (scoliosis)
  • Impotence
  • Allergic reaction

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to baclofen or any of its ingredients, have severe epilepsy that is hard to treat, or if it is to be given by any other method than into the spinal canal.
  • Do not suddenly stop taking Baclofen Sintetica, as this can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. Always ensure your pump is refilled at your scheduled doctor's appointments.
  • Avoid alcohol while using this medicine, as it can make the effects stronger or unpredictable.
  • If you experience thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor or go to the hospital immediately.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 4 years of age.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include sedation, confusion, depression, nightmares, muscular weakness and hypotension. Increases risk of falls. (updated 16.9.2024)
