How to Use

Dosage

For most infections, take 500 mg once a day for 3 days, or 500 mg on day 1 and then 250 mg on days 2-5. For Chlamydia infections, take a single dose of 1000 mg.

Method

Take your daily dose once a day, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 500 mg per day for ongoing treatment, except for a single 1000 mg dose for specific infections as prescribed.

  • Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure
  • Stomach or gut inflammation, constipation, trouble swallowing, bloating, dry mouth, burping, mouth sores
  • Liver problems (like inflammation, yellow skin/eyes, or liver failure)
  • Severe skin reactions (rashes, blisters, peeling skin, sensitivity to sun)
  • Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat (severe allergic reaction)
  • Kidney problems (kidney pain or kidney failure)
  • Pancreatitis (severe stomach pain from pancreas inflammation)
  • Changes in smell, taste, or having hallucinations
  • Seizures or fainting
  • Feeling very confused (delirium)
  • Worsening of muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
  • Bruising or bleeding more easily (low blood platelets) or anemia
  • General feeling of being unwell, weakness, or hot flashes

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to azithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics (like erythromycin), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Seek emergency help immediately if you have severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, skin rash, or hives. These can be life-threatening.
  • If you get severe or persistent diarrhea, stomach pain, or fever during or after treatment, contact your doctor. It could be a sign of a serious gut infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or an irregular heartbeat, as this medicine can affect your heart rhythm.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
