How to Use

Dosage

For most infections, take 500 mg once a day for 3 days, or 500 mg on the first day and then 250 mg daily for the next 4 days. For Chlamydia infections, take 1000 mg as a single dose.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with water, with or without food. Do not chew the tablets.

Important

Do not take more than 500 mg in a single day, unless specifically instructed for a single 1000 mg dose for certain infections.

  • Changes in the number of white blood cells
  • Changes in other blood test results (e.g., low bicarbonate levels)
RARE
  • Yeast infection (e.g., in mouth or vagina)
  • Lung infection, bacterial throat infection, stomach or gut inflammation, breathing problems, nasal inflammation
  • Changes in white blood cell count (e.g., low levels of certain white blood cells)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nervousness, trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, changes in taste, tingling or numbness
  • Vision problems
  • Ear problems, spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Heart palpitations (feeling your heart beat)
  • Hot flashes
  • Sudden wheezing, nosebleeds
  • Constipation, gas, indigestion, stomach lining inflammation, difficulty swallowing, bloated stomach, dry mouth, burping, mouth sores, increased saliva
  • Rash, itching, hives, skin inflammation, dry skin, excessive sweating
  • Joint disease (osteoarthritis), muscle pain, back pain, neck pain
  • Difficulty urinating, kidney pain
  • Irregular vaginal bleeding, testicular problems
  • Swelling, weakness, general discomfort, facial swelling, chest pain, fever, pain, limb swelling
  • Abnormal lab test results (e.g., blood or liver tests)
  • Irritability
  • Abnormal liver function, yellowing of skin or eyes
  • Allergic skin reactions, such as increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Rash with rapidly appearing red areas and small blisters (filled with white/yellow fluid)
  • Drug rash with eosinophilia (increased type of white blood cells) and systemic symptoms like fever and swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to azithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics (like erythromycin or clarithromycin), ketolide antibiotics, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems; your doctor may need to monitor your liver function or stop treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have certain heart problems, like a slow or irregular heartbeat, or if you have low potassium or magnesium levels in your blood.
  • Do not take this medicine with ergotamine derivatives (used for migraines or poor circulation).
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney problems.

  • Tell your doctor if you have myasthenia gravis (a condition causing muscle weakness).
  • Tell your doctor if you have neurological (nerve) or psychiatric (mental health) problems.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek urgent medical help if you develop a severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, dizziness, swelling of face/throat, rash), signs of liver problems (dark urine, yellow skin/eyes, loss of appetite), or severe, watery, or bloody diarrhea.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor advises it.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy.
  • Azithromycin Krka tablets are not suitable for children and adolescents under 45 kg.
