How to Use

Dosage

Usually, take 500 mg once a day for 3 days (total 1500 mg), or 500 mg on day 1 then 250 mg daily on days 2-5 (total 1500 mg). For Chlamydia infection, take 1000 mg as a single dose.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Usually up to 500 mg per day. For Chlamydia infection, a single dose of 1000 mg is given.

  • yeast infection (in mouth or vagina)
  • lung infection (pneumonia)
  • bacterial throat infection
  • stomach or gut inflammation
  • breathing problems, inflamed nasal lining
  • changes in types of white blood cells (e.g., low white blood cells, high eosinophils)
  • allergic reactions
  • loss of appetite
  • feeling nervous
  • trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • feeling dizzy
  • feeling drowsy
  • changes in how things taste
  • tingling or numbness
  • vision problems
  • ear problems, feeling like things are spinning (vertigo)
  • feeling your heart beat fast or hard (palpitations)
  • hot flashes
  • sudden wheezing, nosebleeds
  • constipation, gas, upset stomach (indigestion)
  • stomach lining inflammation (gastritis)
  • trouble swallowing
  • bloating, dry mouth, burping, mouth sores, more saliva than usual
  • rash, itching, hives, skin inflammation, dry skin, sweating more than usual
  • joint problems (osteoarthritis), muscle pain, back pain, neck pain
  • trouble urinating, kidney pain
  • unusual vaginal bleeding, testicle problems
  • swelling, weakness, feeling generally unwell, swollen face, chest pain, fever, pain, swollen limbs
  • abnormal lab test results (e.g., blood or liver tests)
  • irritability
  • abnormal liver function, yellow skin or eyes
  • allergic skin reactions, like being more sensitive to the sun
  • rash with fast-appearing red patches and small blisters
  • drug rash with increased eosinophils and body-wide symptoms (DRESS)
  • fewer red blood cells because they break down too fast (hemolytic anemia), fewer platelets (blood clotting cells)
  • anger, aggression, anxiety, confusion, hallucinations
  • fainting
  • seizures
  • reduced sense of touch
  • feeling overactive
  • changes in smell (loss or distorted smell)
  • loss of taste
  • muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
  • life-threatening irregular heartbeat, abnormal heart tracing (ECG)
  • hearing loss, including deafness or ringing in the ears
  • low blood pressure
  • inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • tongue discoloration
  • joint pain
  • kidney inflammation (interstitial nephritis) and kidney failure

Important Warnings

  • If you get a severe allergic reaction (trouble breathing, swollen face, rash), stop taking the medicine and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you notice signs of liver problems (e.g., dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, loss of appetite), stop taking the medicine and seek urgent medical attention.
  • If you have severe diarrhea, especially with blood or mucus, contact a doctor immediately. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine without consulting a doctor.
  • If you feel your heart beating unusually, feel dizzy, or have muscle weakness, contact a doctor.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise.
