How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 5 mg twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water, with or without food. Take doses about 12 hours apart.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose based on how well you tolerate the medicine.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High blood pressure
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, sore mouth/throat/tongue, constipation
  • Shortness of breath, cough, hoarseness
  • Lack of energy, weakness, tiredness
  • Underactive thyroid (identified by blood test)
  • Redness and swelling of hands/feet (hand-foot syndrome), rash, dry skin
  • Joint pain, hand/foot pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Protein in urine (identified by urine test)
  • Weight loss
  • Headache, changes in taste or loss of taste
  • Dehydration
  • Kidney failure
  • Gas, hemorrhoids, bleeding gums, rectal bleeding, burning/stinging in mouth
  • Overactive thyroid (identified by blood test)
  • Sore throat/nose, irritated throat
  • Muscle pain
  • Nosebleeds
  • Itching, skin redness, hair loss
  • Ringing/buzzing in ears (tinnitus)
  • Low red blood cell count (identified by blood test)
  • Low platelet count (cells that help blood clot, identified by blood test)
  • Red blood cells in urine (identified by urine test)
  • Changes in blood chemicals/enzymes (identified by blood test)
  • High red blood cell count (identified by blood test)
  • Swollen abdomen, legs or ankles, bulging neck veins, severe tiredness, shortness of breath (signs of heart failure)
  • Fistulas (abnormal passages between body parts or to skin)
  • Dizziness
  • Gallbladder inflammation
RARE
  • Low white blood cell count (identified by blood test)
  • Bulging or weakened blood vessel walls, or ruptured blood vessel walls (aneurysms and arterial dissections)

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure or if it rises. Your blood pressure will be checked regularly.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thyroid problems, or if you feel more tired than usual, feel cold easily, or your voice changes.
  • Seek urgent medical care immediately if you have had blood clots (like stroke, heart attack) or experience symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, numbness, or vision changes.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bleeding problems, or if you cough up blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had an aneurysm (a bulging or weak blood vessel) or a ruptured blood vessel.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have severe, persistent stomach pain. This medicine can cause holes in your stomach or intestines.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having surgery or have an unhealed wound. Your medicine might need to be paused before surgery.
  • Seek urgent medical care immediately if you have symptoms like headache, confusion, seizures, or vision changes, with or without high blood pressure.
  • Your doctor will take blood tests to check your liver function before and during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you feel very tired, have swelling, shortness of breath, or bulging neck veins (signs of heart failure).
  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice, as this can increase side effects.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant. Use reliable contraception during treatment and for one week after your last dose.
  • Do not breastfeed while taking Axitinib Stada.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines if you feel dizzy or tired.
