How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is 5 mg twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food, about 12 hours apart.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 10 mg, but your doctor may adjust it.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High blood pressure
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, flatulence, hemorrhoids, rectal bleeding
  • Soreness or burning in mouth, tongue, or throat; bleeding gums; throat or nose pain
  • Shortness of breath, cough, hoarseness, nosebleeds
  • Lack of energy, weakness, tiredness, significant fatigue, dizziness
  • Underactive or overactive thyroid (detected by blood test)
  • Redness and swelling of palms/soles (hand-foot syndrome), rash, dry skin, itchy skin, hair loss
  • Joint pain, pain in hands or feet, muscle pain, headache
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss
  • Changes in taste or loss of taste
  • Protein in urine, kidney failure, red blood cells in urine (detected by urine test)
  • Decreased red blood cells, decreased platelets, increased red blood cells, changes in blood chemicals/enzymes (detected by blood test)
  • Swelling in abdomen, legs, or ankles; bulging neck veins; shortness of breath (signs of heart failure)
  • Fistulas (abnormal passages), ringing/buzzing in ears (tinnitus), gallbladder inflammation
RARE
  • Decreased white blood cell count (detected by blood test)
  • Enlarged or weakened blood vessel walls, or rupture of a blood vessel wall (aneurysms and arterial dissections)

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can raise your blood pressure. Have your blood pressure checked regularly during treatment.
  • This medicine can affect your thyroid gland. Tell your doctor if you feel very tired or cold.
  • If you have had blood clots or heart problems like a stroke or heart attack. Seek medical help immediately if you get chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty speaking, or weakness on one side of your body.
  • This medicine can increase the risk of bleeding. Tell your doctor if you cough up blood or have unusual bleeding.
  • If you have or have had enlarged or weakened blood vessel walls (aneurysm).

  • This medicine can cause stomach pain or holes in your stomach/intestines. Tell your doctor if you have severe stomach pain.
  • If you are having surgery or have an unhealed wound.
  • If you get headaches, confusion, seizures, or vision problems. These can be signs of a rare brain swelling.
  • Your doctor will check your liver function with blood tests before and during treatment.
  • This medicine can increase the risk of heart failure. Tell your doctor if you are very tired, have swelling, or shortness of breath.
