How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 5 mg, taken twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water, either with or without food. Take your doses about 12 hours apart.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose based on how well you tolerate the medicine.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High blood pressure.
  • Diarrhea, feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting), stomach pain, indigestion, sore mouth, tongue, or throat, constipation, gas, hemorrhoids, bleeding from gums or rectum, or a burning feeling in your mouth.
  • Shortness of breath, cough, hoarseness, nosebleeds.
  • Feeling very tired, weak, or having low energy.
  • Your thyroid gland may become underactive or overactive (shown in blood tests).
  • Redness and swelling of your hands and feet (hand-foot syndrome), rash, dry skin, itchy or red skin, hair loss.
  • Pain in your joints, hands, or feet.
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss.
  • Headache, changes in taste or loss of taste.
  • Not enough body fluid (dehydration), kidney problems.
  • Ringing or buzzing in your ears (tinnitus).
  • Changes in blood tests like fewer red blood cells or platelets, red blood cells in urine, changes in blood chemicals/enzymes, or more red blood cells.
  • Swelling in your stomach, legs, or ankles, bulging neck veins, extreme tiredness, or shortness of breath (these can be signs of heart problems).
  • Abnormal passages in the body (fistulas).
  • Dizziness.
  • Swelling of the gallbladder.
RARE
  • Fewer white blood cells (seen in blood tests).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to axitinib or any other ingredients.
  • This medicine can increase blood pressure. Your doctor will check your blood pressure regularly.
  • This medicine can affect your thyroid. Tell your doctor if you feel tired, cold, or your voice changes.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have symptoms of blood clots, like chest pain, numbness on one side of the body, sudden headache, or vision changes.
  • This medicine can increase bleeding risk. Tell your doctor if you bleed, cough up blood, or have bloody mucus.

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had an aneurysm (weak or bulging blood vessel) or a torn blood vessel.
  • Tell your doctor if you get severe or persistent stomach pain, as this medicine can cause holes or fistulas in the stomach or intestines.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having surgery or have an unhealed wound.
  • Get urgent medical care if you have headache, confusion, seizures, or vision changes, with or without high blood pressure.
  • Your doctor will check your liver function with blood tests before and during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have extreme tiredness, swelling in your stomach, legs, or ankles, shortness of breath, or bulging neck veins, as these can be signs of heart problems.
