How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start with a small dose (one Attentin tablet) and slowly increase it each week until the right dose is found. The usual dose is 5–20 mg per day.

Method

Take the tablets with water, preferably with or right after a meal. Take the medicine at the same time each day in relation to meals. Avoid taking the last dose too late in the day to prevent trouble sleeping.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg, but in rare cases, your doctor might prescribe up to 40 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased appetite, weight loss, and slower weight gain in children with long-term use.
  • Trouble sleeping.
  • Nervousness.
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat, feeling your heart pound.
  • Stomach pain, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth.
  • Increased blood pressure and heart rate.
  • Joint pain.
  • Dizziness, jerky or involuntary movements, headache, hyperactivity.
  • Abnormal behavior, aggression, anxiety, depression, irritability.
RARE
  • Chest pain.
  • Vision problems, such as blurred vision and dilated pupils.
  • Slower growth in height for children with long-term use.
  • Tiredness.
  • Rash or hives.
  • Decrease in red blood cells, which can cause paleness, weakness, or shortness of breath.
  • Cardiac arrest.
  • Tourette's syndrome.
  • Liver problems, such as liver dysfunction.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Seizures, involuntary movements, bleeding in the brain.
  • Suicidal thoughts, worsening of tics.
  • Skin patches, peeling skin, or recurrent rash.
  • Inflammation or blockage of blood vessels in the spinal cord and brain.
  • Heart muscle disease, heart attack, sudden death.
  • Bowel inflammation (due to blood flow problems), diarrhea.
  • Chest pain, fever, allergic reactions.
  • Acid imbalance in the body.
  • Difficulty controlling movements, dizziness, changes in taste, trouble concentrating, overreactions, stroke, shaking.
  • Confusion, addiction, mood swings, excessive happiness, impaired thinking, changes in sex drive, panic attacks, paranoia.
  • Kidney damage.
  • Impotence.
  • Sweating, hair loss.
  • Circulation problems.
  • Numbness, tingling, and color changes in fingers and toes when cold (Raynaud's phenomenon).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Attentin if you are allergic to dexamfetamine, other amphetamines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you have heart problems, such as a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, or a congenital heart defect.
  • If you have had problems with blood vessels in your brain, such as a stroke.
  • If you have severe mental health problems, such as schizophrenia, severe depression, or suicidal thoughts.
  • If you are taking antidepressants called MAO inhibitors or have taken them within the last 14 days.
