How to Use

Dosage

The usual recommended dose is 5–20 mg.

Method

Take Attadex by mouth with water, preferably with or right after a meal, once or twice daily at the same time each day. Do not take the last dose too late after lunch to avoid sleep problems.

Important

The highest recommended daily dose is 20 mg; in rare cases, 40 mg may be needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased appetite, slow growth, weight loss (especially in children with long-term use).
  • Difficulty sleeping, nervousness.
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat, stomach pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth.
  • Changes in blood pressure or heart rate (usually an increase), joint pain.
  • Dizziness, jerky or uncontrolled movements, headache, hyperactivity, unusual behavior, aggression, agitation, anxiety, depression, irritability.
RARE
  • Chest pain during exercise, blurred vision, slow growth (in children with long-term use).
  • Severe skin rashes or hives.
  • Serious heart problems (like heart attack or cardiac arrest), stroke, or severe bleeding in the skull.
  • Thoughts of suicide.
  • Muscle cramps, severe confusion, dependence on the medicine, or Tourette's syndrome.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to dexamfetamine sulfate or other amphetamines.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have thyroid problems, very high eye pressure (glaucoma), or a tumor in your adrenal gland.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have an eating disorder (like anorexia nervosa) or problems with very high blood pressure or narrowed blood vessels that cause pain in arms or legs.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had heart problems (like a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, heart failure) or brain blood vessel problems (like a stroke or aneurysm).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have certain mental health issues, such as severe mood disorders (depression, mania, bipolar disorder), psychosis (seeing or hearing things that aren't there), or thoughts of harming yourself.

  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking or have taken certain antidepressants called MAOIs in the last 14 days.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have Tourette's syndrome or other motor or vocal tics.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have porphyria (a rare blood disorder).
