How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start treatment with 5 mg, which will be gradually increased weekly if needed, up to 20 mg; always use the lowest effective dose.

Method

Swallow tablets with water at or immediately after a meal, once or twice daily at the same time of day, but not too late to avoid sleep disturbances. Tablets can be divided into four parts.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg, but in rare cases, up to 40 mg may be needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased appetite, weight loss, and slower weight/height gain (in children with long-term use).
  • Difficulty sleeping.
  • Nervousness.
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat, feeling your heart beat strongly (palpitations).
  • Stomach pain and/or cramps, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth (these often occur at the start of treatment and may be relieved by taking the medicine with food).
  • Changes in blood pressure and heart rate (usually increases).
  • Joint pain.
  • Dizziness or feeling lightheaded, jerky or involuntary movements, headache, hyperactivity, abnormal behavior, aggression, agitation, loss of appetite, anxiety, depression, irritability.
RARE
  • Chest pain, angina, or sudden death.
  • Difficulty focusing vision, blurred vision, dilated pupils.
  • Slowed growth in children with long-term use.
  • Skin rash, hives, itchy red patches (erythema multiforme) or peeling skin patches (exfoliative dermatitis), recurring rash.
  • Fatigue.
  • Inflammation and/or blockage of blood vessels in the spinal cord and brain (cerebral vasculitis).
  • Decreased red blood cells (pale skin, weakness, shortness of breath), changes in blood cell counts (leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytopenic purpura).
  • Tourette's syndrome, worsening of existing tics.
  • Abnormal liver function.
  • Muscle cramps, involuntary movements (choreoathetotic movements), abnormal muscle tissue breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) with symptoms like muscle pain, cramps, or weakness.
  • Bleeding inside the skull (intracranial hemorrhage).
  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a rare, severe reaction with high fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, and changes in mental state).
  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior.
  • High body temperature.
  • Stroke.
  • Dependence, compulsive behavior, panic attacks, paranoia, confusion, dysphoria (feeling unwell), mood swings, euphoria, impaired thinking ability, changes in sex drive, nightmares, restlessness.
  • Inflammation of parts of the large intestine due to reduced blood flow (ischemic colitis).
  • Acid-base imbalance in the body (acidosis).
  • Difficulty controlling movements (ataxia), dizziness, abnormal or decreased sense of taste, difficulty concentrating, overactive reflexes, tremor, numbness in fingers and toes, tingling and color changes in the cold (Raynaud's phenomenon).
  • Kidney damage.
  • Impotence.
  • Sweating, hair loss, diarrhea, circulatory collapse.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to dexamfetamine sulfate or other amphetamines.
  • Do not use if you have heart problems, high blood pressure, narrowed blood vessels, a heart attack, or other severe heart or blood vessel issues.
  • Do not use if you have severe mental health problems such as psychosis, schizophrenia, severe depression, suicidal thoughts, or bipolar disorder.
  • Avoid use if you have a thyroid disorder, high eye pressure, an adrenal gland tumor, an eating disorder, Tourette's syndrome, or porphyria.
  • Do not use if you have taken antidepressants (MAO inhibitors) in the last 14 days.

  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of alcohol, prescription drug, or recreational drug abuse.
  • Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery; do not take Attadex on the day of surgery if certain anesthetics are used.
  • Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals; discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machinery, as this medicine may cause dizziness or vision problems.
