How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children over 10 years old is 10 mg once a day. Your doctor may adjust the dose as needed.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them any time of day, with or without food. Try to take them at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nose inflammation, sore throat, nosebleeds.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • High blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your sugar levels), increased creatine kinase levels in blood.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, and back pain.
  • Abnormal liver function test results.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, which can cause severe breathing difficulties, sudden wheezing, chest pain, or collapse.
  • Severe skin disease with peeling and swelling of the skin, blisters on skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals, and fever.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, or muscle tear, reddish-brown urine. Especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, these symptoms may indicate severe muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), which can be life-threatening and lead to kidney damage.
  • Loss of appetite, weight gain, low blood sugar (if you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar levels carefully).
  • Nightmares, insomnia.
  • Dizziness, numbness or tingling in fingers and toes, reduced sense of touch, changes in taste, memory loss.
  • Blurred vision, visual disturbances.
  • Ringing in ears and/or head, hearing loss.
  • Vomiting, belching, upper and lower abdominal pain, pancreas inflammation (causing stomach pain).
  • Liver inflammation, unexpected bleeding or bruising, jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes). If these occur, contact your doctor.
  • Rash, itching, hives, hair loss, skin rash in the mouth or on the skin (lichenoid drug reaction), purple skin lesions (blood vessel inflammation).
  • Neck pain, muscle fatigue, tendon damage.
  • Fatigue, malaise, weakness, chest pain, ankle swelling, fever, white blood cells in urine.
  • Lupus-like syndrome (rash, joint pain, effects on blood cells).
  • Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in men).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any of this medicine's ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver disease or abnormal liver test results.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, breastfeeding, or can get pregnant and are not using reliable birth control.
  • Do not use if you are taking the combination of glecaprevir and pibrentasvir for hepatitis C treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe breathing problems.

  • Tell your doctor if you have taken fusidic acid (a medicine for bacterial infection) by mouth or injection in the last 7 days. Taking them together can cause severe muscle problems.
  • Avoid drinking large amounts of grapefruit juice as it can change how the medicine works.
  • Avoid drinking a lot of alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • If you have lactose intolerance, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
