How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children aged 10 or older is 10 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose if needed.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose of Atorvastatin SUN is 80 mg.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, which can lead to severe difficulty breathing.
  • Severe skin reactions with peeling, blistering on skin, mouth, eyes, genitals, and fever, or a rash with pink-red spots, especially on palms or soles.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, or breakdown, with red-brown urine, especially if you feel unwell or have a high fever; this could be rhabdomyolysis and may lead to kidney problems.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising, which could be a sign of liver problems; contact your doctor immediately.
  • Lupus-like syndrome, including rash, joint pain, and effects on blood cells.
  • Hearing loss.
  • Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in men).
  • Loss of appetite, weight gain, low blood sugar (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your blood sugar).
  • Nightmares, sleeplessness.
  • Dizziness, numbness or tingling in fingers and toes, reduced sensation to pain or touch, altered taste, memory loss.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Ringing in the ears and/or head.
  • Vomiting, belching, upper and lower abdominal pain, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas causing stomach pain).
  • Liver inflammation.
  • Rash, itching, hives, hair loss.
  • Neck pain, muscle fatigue.
  • Fatigue, feeling unwell, weakness, chest pain, swelling, especially in ankles, fever.
  • White blood cells in urine.
COMMON
  • Inflammation in nasal passages, sore throat, nosebleed.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • High blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your blood sugar), increased creatine kinase in the blood.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain.
  • Abnormal liver function test results.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have liver problems or have had abnormal liver tests.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, breastfeeding, or could become pregnant and are not using reliable birth control.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe breathing problems or if you are taking fusidic acid (an antibiotic), as this can cause serious muscle issues.
  • Avoid drinking large amounts of grapefruit juice (more than 1-2 small glasses daily) and excessive alcohol while taking this medicine.
