How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children aged 10 and above, the usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily; the dose can be increased if needed.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water at any time of day, with or without food; try to take your dose at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose of Atorvastatin ratiopharm is 80 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inflammation in the nose, sore throat, nosebleeds.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Increased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your blood sugar) and increased creatine kinase levels in the blood.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, and back pain.
  • Abnormal liver function test results.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, causing breathing difficulties.
  • Severe skin disease with skin peeling, blisters, fever, and swelling.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, or rupture, or reddish-brown urine (rhabdomyolysis), which can lead to kidney problems.
  • Liver problems, indicated by unexpected bleeding or bruising.
  • Lupus-like syndrome (rash, joint symptoms, effects on blood cells).
  • Hearing loss.
  • Gynecomastia (enlargement of breasts in men).
  • Loss of appetite, weight gain, decreased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your blood sugar).
  • Nightmares, insomnia.
  • Dizziness, numbness/tingling in fingers/toes, reduced sensitivity to pain/touch, taste changes, memory loss.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Ringing in ears and/or head.
  • Vomiting, belching, upper and lower abdominal pain, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas causing abdominal pain).
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation).
  • Rash, itching, hives, hair loss.
  • Neck pain, muscle fatigue.
  • Fatigue, malaise, weakness, chest pain, swelling (especially ankles), fever.
  • Positive urine white blood cell test.
  • Vision disturbances.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising.
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes).
  • Tendon damage.
  • Skin rash or mouth ulcers (lichenoid drug reaction).
  • Purple skin lesions (vasculitis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol during treatment.
  • Limit grapefruit juice intake (no more than 1-2 small glasses per day), as large amounts can affect how the medicine works.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, breastfeeding, or are a woman of childbearing age not using reliable contraception.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe liver disease or unexplained abnormal liver blood test results.

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe lung disease.
  • If you are taking or have recently taken fusidic acid (a medicine for bacterial infections), tell your doctor, as combining them can cause serious muscle problems.
  • Do not drive or use machines if the medicine affects your ability to do so.
