Atorvastatin ratiopharm is a statin medicine used to lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels when diet and lifestyle changes are not enough, or if you have an increased risk of heart disease.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children aged 10 years and older is 10 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water at any time of day, with or without food. Try to take your tablets at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose of Atorvastatin ratiopharm is 80 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inflammation of nasal passages, sore throat, nosebleed.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Increased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, monitor carefully), increased creatine kinase in blood.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, flatulence (gas), indigestion, diarrhea.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain.
  • Abnormal changes in liver function blood test results.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, possibly leading to breathing difficulties.
  • Severe skin condition causing severe peeling and swelling of the skin, blistering on the skin, mouth, eyes, genitals, and fever. Rash with pink or reddish patches, especially on palms or soles, which may turn into blisters.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, or rupture, or reddish-brown urine, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever; this may be due to abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), which can be life-threatening and lead to kidney problems.
  • Vision disturbances.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising.
  • Cholestasis (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes).
  • Tendon injury.
  • Possible skin rash or mouth sores (lichenoid drug reaction).
  • Purple skin lesions (signs of vasculitis, an inflammation of blood vessels).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have ever had liver disease, or unexplained abnormal liver blood test results.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or are a woman of childbearing age not using reliable contraception.
  • Do not use if you are taking glecaprevir/pibrentasvir for hepatitis C treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken fusidic acid (an antibiotic), as this combination can cause severe muscle problems.

  • Limit grapefruit juice to one or two small glasses per day, as large amounts can affect the medicine's action.
  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking this medicine.
