How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily for adults and children aged 10 years or older. Your doctor may increase the dose gradually.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them at any time of day, with or without food. Try to take your medicine at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg once daily for adults and 20 mg once daily for children.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nasal inflammation, sore throat, nosebleed
  • Allergic reactions
  • Increased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your blood sugar), increased creatine kinase levels in blood
  • Headache
  • Nausea, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, and back pain
  • Abnormal liver function test results
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, which may lead to breathing difficulties, sudden wheezing, chest pain or tightness, or fainting
  • Severe skin reactions including peeling, blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals, with fever; pink or red spots, especially on palms or soles
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, muscle breakdown, or reddish-brown urine, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Vision disturbances
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising, which could indicate liver problems
  • Cholestasis (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes)
  • Tendon injury
  • Skin rash or mouth sores (lichenoid drug reaction)
  • Purple skin lesions (vasculitis)
  • Lupus-like illness (including rash, joint problems, and blood cell effects)
  • Hearing loss
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)
  • Persistent muscle weakness
  • Myasthenia gravis (a disease causing general muscle weakness, sometimes affecting breathing muscles)
  • Ocular myasthenia (a disease causing eye muscle weakness)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any similar medicines, or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have or have had liver problems, or unexplained abnormal liver blood tests.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, breastfeeding, or if you are a woman who can become pregnant and are not using reliable birth control.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are using glecaprevir/pibrentasvir for hepatitis C.
  • Tell your doctor if you have taken fusidic acid (an antibiotic) in the last 7 days, as combining it with Atorvastatin Krka can lead to serious muscle problems.
