How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10 mg once a day for adults and children over 10 years old. Your doctor may increase the dose gradually, with at least four weeks between dose adjustments.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food, at any time of day, but try to take them at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg for adults and 20 mg for children.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nose and throat inflammation, sore throat, nosebleeds
  • Allergic reactions
  • Increased blood sugar (monitor if you have diabetes), increased muscle enzyme (creatine kinase) levels
  • Headache
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, and back pain
  • Abnormal liver function test results
  • Loss of appetite, weight gain, decreased blood sugar (monitor if you have diabetes)
  • Nightmares, insomnia (difficulty sleeping)
  • Dizziness, numbness or tingling in fingers and toes, reduced sense of pain or touch, changes in taste, memory loss
  • Blurred vision, ringing in the ears and/or head
  • Vomiting, burping, stomach pain (upper and lower abdomen), pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas causing stomach pain)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Rash, itching, hives, hair loss
  • Neck pain, muscle tiredness
  • Tiredness, feeling unwell, weakness, chest pain, swelling (especially in ankles), fever
  • Positive white blood cell test in urine
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, difficulty breathing, sudden wheezing, chest pain or tightness, fainting.
  • Severe skin disease with extensive peeling and swelling of the skin, blisters on the skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals, with fever. Rash with pink-red, possibly blistering, patches especially on palms or soles.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, muscle rupture, or reddish-brown urine, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever. This can be due to abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), which can be life-threatening and lead to kidney problems.
  • Unexpected or unusual bleeding or bruising, which may indicate liver problems. Contact your doctor immediately.
  • Lupus-like syndrome (including rash, joint problems, and effects on blood cells).
  • Vision disturbances
  • Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (cholestasis)
  • Tendon injury
  • Possible skin rash or mouth sores (lichenoid drug reaction)
  • Purple skin lesions (signs of blood vessel inflammation, vasculitis)
  • Hearing loss
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to atorvastatin, similar medicines, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have or have had a liver disease, or if you have had abnormal liver test results that are unclear.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. If you are a woman who can become pregnant, you must use reliable birth control.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking a combination of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir for hepatitis C treatment.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if it's ongoing.

  • If you are taking or have taken fusidic acid (a medicine for bacterial infection) in the last 7 days, you must temporarily stop taking Atorvastatin Krka. Combining these medicines can lead to severe muscle problems.
  • Do not drink more than one or two small glasses of grapefruit juice per day, as large amounts can change how this medicine works.
  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking this medicine.

Category A
